|
|
17 Jianguomenwai Dajie/建国门外 大街 17 号-友谊商店
Near Jianguomen, the inerchange stop between Line 1 and 2.
Great place to find those magazines and books you’ve been craving. You can also find a wide range of almost everything else, and this is one of the only places in Beijing that sells certified ivory. Supporting regulated ivory helps discourage the illegal trade. |

Tiantan Donglu / 天坛 东路-红桥市场
Buses 116, 106, 43, 20, 19, 15, 6; In-between Qianmen and Hepingmen subway stops on line 2.
While you can find almost anything here, their specialty is pearls, and you can find a wide-variety – white, black, pink, freshwater, saltwater…and a range of quality. Take a pass on the basement though, as they unfortunately sell products like snake meat and scorpions that contribute to ecological destruction. |

*Only open Saturday and Sunday
This fun market is a Beijing-must. You can find a great selection of everything Chinese – art, crafts, antiques, calligraphy, Communist memorabilia…. It is also called the “Dirt” or “Sunday” market as it only is open on the weekends. Early Sunday morning is the best time to hit this scene. There is so much here, it’s best to make a few rounds and take it all in before committing yourself to something and starting the bargaining process. |
