Green Tourism

Everyone wants to enjoy their vacation, but regional or local beauty and environmental quality can be destroyed, especially when the number of tourists is higher than the destination can cope with. In many cases, this leads to the depletion of resources on which the destination depends. Follow these simple tips to lighten your impact and be a Green Traveler!

Green Tourism Tips
  • Pack light. Think over the fact that most of the waste you leave behind might not be sorted, much less recycled.
  • Take environmentally friendly transportation. Choose trains, public buses, or bicycles if possible.
  • Choose an 'eco' hotel or bring along your own hiking/camping gear.
  •  Protect local wildlife. Simply a lack of information can some times lead people to accidentally hurt animals that they meant to observe or even help.
  • Don’t buy illegal wild life products – remember if you don’t buy, they won’t die.
  • Discover places by bicycle.  Riding a bike is the best way to really explore and experience a new place. It is easy to buy or rent a bike in China – just start asking around.
  • Bring along your own reusable drinking container instead of buying plastic bottles.
  • Take as little plastic as possible, and, above all, do not throw away batteries! Instead you can take a solar lamp, rechargeable batteries, and make do without many electric devices. If you absolutely have to use disposable batteries, make sure to take them back with you, and never carelessly leave them behind.
  • Don't carve or write your name on or otherwise damage monuments or trees. Take back photographs and memories and leave nature and sites for others to enjoy.
  • Learn about local the culture, environment and ecosystems and participate in environmental conservation. While tourists can have a strong negative impact on a natural environment, they can also have a positive affect by participating in conservation and supporting national parks and local populations. It is up to you how you will contribute.
