Washing Machine
When purchasing a new washing machine, make sure to check the China Energy Label on the product, and choose the one with a higher Energy Efficiency standard (1 is the best, and five is the worst).
Purchasing a front-loading (horizontal-axis) washing machine with Grade 1 Energy Efficiency can:
· Save over 50% in water and energy use.
· Dramatically reduce your detergent use because of its superior cleaning capability.
But even with your existing clothes washer, by following these simple rules of thumb, you can save on energy and water bills:
· Wash clothes in cold water, and use hot water for only the dirtiest clothes. A hot wash/warm rinse setting for a load of laundry will cost you up to 20 times more than a cold wash/cold rinse setting..
· Gather a full load before turning on the washing machine. If you only have a few clothes that you need to wash, please choose a lower setting to save water..
· Pre-soak very dirty clothes before you wash them.
