Green Home Consumer Guide

Air conditioning

When purchasing an air conditioner, check the China Energy
Label on the product, and choose the one with a higher standard of Energy Efficiency.
Follow these guidelines, and you can reduce your energy consumption and save a lot of money!
· Choose the right model with sufficient cooling power for the room. One square meter requires approximately 160W of cooling power.
· Set the room temperature around 26 C in summer and 18 – 20 C in winter. Drastic difference in room temperature can cause your body great stress, making you more vulnerable to illness.
· Place the outer unit in a shaded, cool spot, avoiding direct sunlight.
· Close your curtains at dusk. In the winter, this will help insulate your room, and in summer, it will help cool your room.
· Clean your filters regularly – this will make the air in your room fresher and cooler.
· Install an electric fan in your room and use it instead of the air conditioner when you can.
· Think of other energy saving ways to keep cool in the summer! For example, install double-layered windows and/or white window shades to reflect heat away from the house.
