Soinam Darje Memorial Plaque

Soinam Darje was a heroic protector of Tibetan Plateau wildlife. He formed a voluntary anti-poaching unit to stop the illegal hunting of Tibetan antelope. He and his mountain patrol would roam the resting places of the antelope in the Kekexili region, often engaging in face-to-face confrontations with poachers. Tragically, in 1994, during a fight with poachers, Soinam Darje lost his life. His bravery and conviction encouraged many people to participate in environmental protection efforts. In order to commemorate Soinam Darje’s contribution, a memorial plaque was placed at the mouth of the Kun Lun Mountains. There is also a ranger station now bearing his name in Kekexili, where community groups meet to enforce and discuss wildlife protection.
