These huge carnivorous bird species contribute to the health of Tibetan grasslands. They are responsible for eating sick animals and eliminating carcasses, thus preventing the spread of diseases to other wildlife or livestock. These birds also grace burial grounds and are considered by Tibetans to be “magic/enchanted birds” that can transport the deceased to heaven.
