If you plan to do some camping or get off the beaten track, please follow these suggestions:
●It is very easy to misjudge distance and height when you are in a huge open space like plateau. If you decide to get off major roads or away from human populations, take special care to not get lost and find a place to rest with water before sunset. If you are not very familiar with the roads, don’t travel at night or you may get lost.
●Find a guide who can speak Tibetan; they will be invaluable.
●Properly plan your trip and take a map with you. Don’t base decision on a single reference. Local people often do not have a precise understanding of time and space because of their relatively slow lifestyle. Two miles could actually mean 20 miles.
●Bring your hat and use sunscreen. The strong UV rays on the plateau can damage your skin, and, without a hat, you lose necessary body heat through your head.
●Bring your rain gear. You may meet with a shower even on the sunniest day as the weather changes rapidly in the plateau.
●Without proper preparation, never try to spent the night in the wild – this could be life threatening. The plateau may be beautiful, but it is also harsh. Please finish your journey before sunset.
●Bring enough clothes to keep warm. There is a large difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. Take a jacket and sweater even in summer months.
●Bring sunglass to protect your eyes from UV Rays and the brightness of snow reflection. If not, it is possible to become snow-blinded after long exposure.
