Tibetan culture emphasizes the respect of life and nature as a religion. Traditionally, each village and community in Tibet has its own sacred mountain and lake. They are usually the mountains/lakes closest to the village. Residents believe it is paramount to guard their sacred mountain and lake and the animals that live on/in them. This belief in Buddhism protects the local environment and can be an example of how humans can live in harmony with nature. With the presently severe threats to the environment and biodiversity, the tradition of nature and animal protection in Tibet is precious to China and the world.
When you enter Tibet, please observe this practice of respect for nature. Do not shout, fish, swim or hunt in sacred areas.
Also, make sure to respect local culture, and be conscious of your behavior. Please don’t kill wildlife, litter, give inappropriate things to children, or shout in temples.
